Audioslave Discography – All 3 Albums + 2 Live + Cd Covers
Posted on October 13th, 2009 No commentsAudioslave – First Release – 2002 + 1 Bonus Track + Covers

Info:
Audioslave: Chris Cornell (vocals); Tom Morello (guitar); Timothy Commerford (bass guitar); Brad Wilk (drums).
AUDIOSLAVE was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.
“Like A Stone” was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance.
A modern day super-group composed of ex-members of heavy rock titans Soundgarden and Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave was subject to some pretty high fan expectations. Luckily, the group delivers just what the doctor ordered: a seamless mix of the styles that made the individual members famous. Basically a stoner rock record par excellence, AUDIOSLAVE strips the genre down to its core, serving up one pile-driving riff after another with minimal, but perfectly placed, production flash. In any given song, the band repeats said riffs with even more bone-crushing attitude each time.
Just when the listener thinks his/her head will go numb from too much stud-rock low E-string twanging and Montrose-era Sammy Hagar-esque wailing, however, Audioslave wisely throws in a ballad. Sure, it’s a proven rock formula, but these guys are professionals fully in control of the situation; AUDIOSLAVE bristles with a no-frills, offhand intensity that throws down and reminds those silly nu-metal poseurs what heavy rock is all about.

Children Of Bodom – Are You Dead Yet? (2005)

9. Were Not Gonna FallReview: Metal-Observer (8/10)
Ive always liked CHILDREN OF BODOM, just never really liked them. You know, I listen to them occasionally and eventually buy each new album, but Ive never considered them amongst my favorites. Truth-be-told, Ive always held COBs contemporaries (ETERNAL TEARS OF SORROW, SKYFIRE, NORTHER, etc.), in higher regard.
With all that in mind, I was in no hurry to get my hands on COBs newest release, Are You Dead Yet? Then I read in a few different places that the instrumental winky puller had been toned down a bit and vocalist Alexi Laiho was a bit easier to understand. This news intrigued me, as Janne Warmans overblown keyboard runs and Alexis garbled-beyond-comprehension vocals had always been my biggest peeve when it came to COBs albums. So I thought, what the hell, and went ahead and picked-up Are You Dead Yet?
First things first, this is still CHILDREN OF BODOM, 100%. There are still keyboard runs and solos, just not quite as many. Warmans keyboards have taken a slightly more backing role this time around. Laihos vocals are still garbled, but he seems to be making an effort to be a bit more understandable. The guitar work from Laiho and new axeman Roope Latvala (ex-Sinergy, among several others) is great, as usual on a COB release. Although, there arent as many leads or solos as on past releases. Bass player Henkka T. Blacksmith has taken a more prominent role on Are You Dead Yet?, standing out more than in the past. And Jaska W. Raatikainens drumming is good, as always. Regardless of ones opinion of COBs music, their instrumental skills are inarguable.
On Are You Dead Yet?, CHILDREN OF BODOM has finally written a full album of songs, not just four-minute vehicles for solos, held together by loose verses and choruses. Id always kind of thought of COB as nothing more than a means for Laiho and Warmen to show off and they did so unabashedly. While this was always impressive, the songs always suffered. Not anymore.
Living Dead Beat starts with keyboard melody and is soon joined by the rest of the band with crunchy, rhythmic beat. This album sees a lot more of the chugging rhythmic-style guitar playing, which might scare many away. But fear not, at the 3:15 mark the first guitar solo rips-in and all is well. Are You Dead Yet speeds things up just a bit in the beginning, but settles into a groove after a short time. With a very catchy chorus, this is one of my favourite tracks. If You Want Peace Prepare For War is and absolute stomper, very bass heavy and the heaviest song on the album. In Your Face is my personal favorite, as it has a pissed of swagger to it that makes me want to pump my fist in the air. Trashed, Lost & Strungout is the albums first single and sounds like a song from COBs last release, Hate Crew Deathroll. To finish off my copy (the USA version), is a cover of the RAMONES classic, Somebody Put Something In My Drink. COB adds its own twist, but never loses the spirit of the original, making for some great fun.
Now for the downside of Are You Dead Yet? Some of the songs (Punch Me I Bleed and Bastards Of Bodom), arent quite on the same level as the others. Ive also read at various forums that a whole lot of people dislike the production, but I think it sounds very good. Mikko Karmila, who has worked with the likes of STRATOVARIUS, SONATA ARCTICA, THERION and LULLACRY in the past, handled the production duties. All the instruments are clear, full and heavy. So, you may or may not be happy with the production value on Are You Dead Yet?
So, the final verdict on Are You Dead Yet? I like it. No, I really like it. It probably wont end up in my year-end top 10 list, but its very good nonetheless. And to top it all off, Are You Dead Yet? is my now my favorite CHILDREN OF BODOM album.

——–The way Brisbanes favorite power-pop band Grand Atlantic survive is by
writing catchy songs. This is the excellent album Oasis should have done after
Whats the Story Morning Glory but didnt. True to their name, Grand Atlantic go
after big, towering hooks. They know that hit songs are simple, and they keep
them that way this is the kind of album youll be humming despite yourself
after youve heard it once. As terse as the writing is, the production has a
massive, big-room 90s feel, with a ton of guitar overdubs ringing, pinging,
clanging and crashing in their allotted spaces. What hits you right off the bat
is how smartly and tastefully this has been assembled. The album gets going with Coast Is Clear, a midtempo, harmony-driven escape
anthem which sets the tone for the rest of the cd. Tripwires introduces the
bands other specialty, crunchy riff-rock, here spiced with some clever retro
80s synth patches. The big hit here, obviously, is Shes a Dreamer, which could
be Oasis but thankfully without the coked-out poser attitude and all those
pilfered Beatles licks (you can hear it right now on their myspace). The upbeat
post-Oasis vibe continues on Freeway and its tasty layers of guitar. The title track, interestingly enough, goes back in time another twenty years
for a sort of Badfinger ballad feel. After that, the Rickenbackers kick in with
some tasty jangle and clang on the sarcastic sha-la-la power-pop number Used to
Be the Sensitive Type. Theres also a satisfying, electric piano-flavored dis of
a gold-digging woman, a garage rock number, and the pensive anthem These Are the
Times, a feast of textures with the Rickenbacker adding gorgeously echoey
accents above the roar. Finally, on the last song, there are some Beatles
echoes, specifically, Lennons Imagine. Otherwise, this is great driving music,
great loud party music and something that could easily take off internationally.
Keep your eyes on Grand Atlantic whether youre in the antipodes or somewhere
north of there. -

Dinosaur Jr. – Farm (2009) @ 320 Kbps
Posted on September 23rd, 2009 No commentsDinosaur Jr. – Farm (2009) @ 320 kbps

The original line-up of Dinosaur Jr. are set to release their fifth full-length record. The effort is titled Farm and will be released via PIAS on June 22nd 2009. The record was recorded in J Mascis Bisquiteen studio in Amherst, MA, and was produced by Mascis. While I have yet to hear the album in its entirety, Im share the press release with you:
If Beyond was Dinosaur Jrs return to form, Farm is proof that this band continues to deliver rock worth cranking to 11. At times wholly 70s guitar-epic, at other times perfect for sitting by a babbling brook with Joni and Neil, Farm encompasses Dinosaur Jr.s signature palette – soaring and distorted guitar, unshakable hooks, honey-rich melodies, with songs that get into your head and, bouncing around happily, stay there.
The ear-catching Plans is nearly 7 minutes of classic whipped-topping rock dessert, whilst I Dont Wanna Go There is a meat-and-potatoes main dish, mixing unapologetic lead guitar with straight-ahead delivery a la James Gang or Humble Pie. These two tunes round out twelve tracks propelled by the unique energy of one of Americas greatest living rock bands hitting their stride.

Their debut album Prison of Desire was recorded in 2000, featuring the guest appearance of Sharon den Adel. The album obtained impressive success in Europe. In the end of that year, drummer André Borgman and keyboardist Lando van Gils joined the band, replacing Joep Beckers and Jack Driessen.
In 2001 the album Decipher was released. Floor Jansen was invited to guest sing in Ayreon, one of Arjen Anthony Lucassen’s projects. In 2002 Mark Jansen quit After Forever and subsequently assembled the band Epica, being replaced by Bas Maas. In 2003 After Forever released the EP and DVD Exordium.
In 2004, the concept album Invisible Circles was released. It reached 26th place in the Dutch Top 100 musical chart. Lando van Gils also left the band and was replaced by Joost van den Broek in the same year.

“Blues For You” is a great Smooth Jazz album, which shows why Jeff Golub has established a fine reputation as an exquisite guiter player and jazz musician.
His guitar playing takes an aesthetic cue from the great exponents of the instrument, especially Wes Montgomery, George Benson, Lee Ritenour, and Larry Carlton, among others.
He is quite capable of playing straight-ahead bop and for sure he has all the skills for it.
But like any creative soul musician he is willing to embrace influences and ideas from any genre that passes him by, adding a fresh and acutely contemporary aspect to his playing.
On this album, which wires definitely towards the blues, Jeff Golub’s fine style is perfectly suited to relaxed Smooth Jazz.
The result is a soulful blend of jazz and modern electric rock/blues.
The album features Shawn Pelton on drums , Tony Garnier on bass, and Kenny White on keyboards to round out the rhythm section.
Rick Braun, Kirk Whalum and Jon Clearly also join in.
For the first time, you will find some vocal tunes : in fact the band adds their own special magic alongside guest vocals from vocalists Billy Squier on the track “Everybody Wants You”, Mark Cohn on “I Don’t Worry About a Thing”, Peter Wolf on “Rooster Blues” and John Waite on “Lost Mind”.
The album exudes mastery with his virtuoso guitar solos and the production and sound are top-notch
“Blues For You” will appeal to lovers of Blues/Soul and Smooth Jazz, catch a master at work.
My highlights: “Fish Fare”, “Rooster Blues” and “Everybody Wants You”.Music Blues-Rock, Bop, Guitar, Jazz, Smooth Jazz, Soul, Vocal -
